Middle School Cleared During Concert
Some say they smelled smoke during sixth-grade concert. Fire Department immediately on scene.
During the sixth-grade concert at Hopkinton Middle School, a fire alarm went off this evening. The building was cleared of all people and firefighters rushed to the scene, six trucks in all, including at least one truck from Ashland. Some of the people who were evacuated from the building said they had smelled smoke. Hopkinton Fire Lt. Scott Jurasek said a ventilation unit on the roof in a part of the building away from the auditorium malfunctioned and sent smoke into the school. Jurasek said firefighters cut power to the unit and had to ventilate a room full of smoke, again in a different part of the building from where the concert was being held.
