After only one year in the district, Jonathan Landman announced his resignation today.
Just over a year ago Hopkinton concluded its search for a replacement for 11-year Superintendent Jack Phelan. In that instance the school committee knew in December about the departure, and had picked a Landman to replace him by March 2011. This news comes just one month before Landman's last day, leaving the School Committee with a shorter period of time in which to find a replacement. Landman is still undergoing the entry process to the district. He often updates the School Committee weekly with what he has been learning, seeing and changing within the district. A press release from the schools doesn't indicate what Landman's next step but it does indicate that he wishes to stay in education. "Although he remains devoted to public …

Board members to receive updates from various organizations and give the Superintendent his yearend review.
The School Committee will hear reports from the Hopkinton Education Foundation, the Hopkinton Parent Teacher Association, the Hopkinton Basketball Association and Parks & Recreation as it wraps up its meeting schedule for the school year Thursday night in the middle school library. The committee also has a working session Wednesday night (tonight). On Thursday, resident Glen Layton will present information about an exit poll conducted after the failed vote for a new school on Fruit Street. Layton had previously reported to the School Committee that the poll results were similar to the percentages of the actual vote. Of 561 people who chose to take the poll, 171 voted for the school while 391 or 70 percent voted against it. Middle School…

Soon-to-be Hopkinton Superintendent of Schools Jonathan Landman outlines his first objectives.
Jonathan Landman spent Thursday at Hopkinton Public Schools. It wasn't the first time nor will it be the last in Spring 2011 the new superintendent has visited the town's schools since he was named superintendent. Landman, described as a high-energy presence, both in Randolph, where he is now the assistant superintendent, andc in Hopkinton, where he has met teachers, administrators, staff, students, parents and town officials, said he was thrilled to be in town. It doesn't take but a few minutes around Landman to know he isn't kidding. Landman said his first goal is “just to listen and learn.” He has said previously and repeatedly that he wants to empower principals and teachers to be creative, take chances and use their knowledge to run…

The new schools superintendent has made and will make several more visits to the Hopkinton School District before starting his new job July 1.
Dr. Jonathan Landman’s contract as Hopkinton's new superintendent of schools, replacing the retiring Jack Phelan, has been approved by the School Committee by a vote of 3-2. In an interview, Dr. Landman said he is thrilled. ”I am delighted that my contract has been approved by the committee," he said. "I look forward to signing it myself, and can't wait to begin my new role in Hopkinton.” Nancy Burdick and Robert de Mont said they support Dr. Landman, but not the contract. "I was not in favor of the salary," Burdick said. "I did not think (it) was appropriate for our initial contract with a first-time superintendent. "And so I felt compelled to cast a 'no' vote, with respect to the paperwork, not the person.” Burdick said, “The main take-…

Yesim, There is always a right to inquire, however based on certain rights to privacy, nothing has been said other than his strengths do not align with the approach of the district. Because the superintendent is a town employee, his one year review would have been at a public meeting of the School Committee, however his resignation came before that point.   more ›
