Elm Street Construction, Why Isn't It Done?

This week a question about the Elm Street repair work was sent to Patch via Twitter.

We've been posting notices for a week or so now about the Elm Street closure so the roadwork that was started last summer could be completed, but that still left some questions from community members.  @Jsward12 reached out to Hopkinton Patch on twitter (@HopkintonPatch) and asked "How long will the Elm Street construction be going on? Was the town not happy with the work done last year?" In a response from Highway Department Manager Mike Manser, he said it will be completed today. "A new sewer line was installed last year so they wanted to be sure no settling occurred within the trench before putting the top course down. It is best to let trenches do whatever settling they are going to do over the winter freeze/thaw cycling before placing…

How to Tweet Like the Pros Even if You're New

Looking to get involved? We put together a beginner's guide to getting into Twitter.

After meeting with several people around town last week that are looking to get on to Twitter, it dawned on us to give it some point for Hopkinton Patch readers and business leaders in the community that may be interested in joining the “Twitterverse”. We’ve put together a list of tips from us and around the web to help you use the social media tool to expand your horizons.  1. The first step in getting in to twitter is creating a handle (name). When you’re creating a twitter for yourself you can use parts of you name. For example, if Faith Community Church is looking to get on twitter they could use a name like @FaithChurchHopkinton or @FaithCommunity. They would want to avoid a name like @FCCH because to people who aren't familiar with…

What We Learned on Patch

End of 2011 Brings Changes for 2012

This week at Patch we spent much of our time reviewing the past year and looking forward to the new year.

This week on Patch we spent a lot of time reminiscing about Hopkinton Patch’s first year of existence. We gave you our list of top olice log entries, as well as a list of some of the top stories for the year. We also spent a lot of time planning what’s going to happen next year. We’re looking ahead to the Boston Marathon in April, A big national election in November, and the end of the world in December (maybe). We’re going to be trying some different things in the new year. We really want to start telling the stories about the people that make Hopkinton such a great place to live and work. We also want to get more readers involved in the conversation regarding town both on the site and off. Blogging is not only a great way to tell your …

During Outages, Holliston Takes To Social Media

Fire officials tweeted important information while residents spoke out against NStar.

A rare October storm that downed power lines across the Northeast knocked out power to parts of Holliston Saturday night. Fire Chief Michael Cassidy used Twitter to spread word of how to deal with the emergency situation while residents used the social network to report power outages and voice frustration with power maintenance companies.
