Hopkinton Police Log: Skating on Thin Ice, Three Arrests

The following information was provided by the Police Department. Charges do not indicate a conviction.

Thursday, Jan. 3 8:48 a.m.: An officer assisted the Hopkinton Fire Department with a medical call on Granite Street. 10:08 a.m.: A resident went in to the Hopkinton Police Department to speak with an officer regarding possible identity theft. 4:18 p.m.: A resident reported several children on the ice at Hopkinton State Park. The person said the kids were near open water. An officer responded and saw people ice fishing. The officer also did not observe any open water. The officer said at the time that the ice was safe. 6:08 p.m.: A caller reported that she was sideswiped by a tractor-trailer on West Main Street near Price Chopper. Friday, Jan. 4 1:17 a.m.: An officer stopped a vehicle on West Main Street and arrested Tracey Lee Simmons, 34…

POLL: Should Grocery Stores Alert You to Recalls?

With a slew of food recalls recently, several Patch readers have applauded the response from grocery stores.

Food gets recalled on a fairly regular basis, but when the threat reaches a critical level some grocery stores have taken steps to get the word out to their customers. After yesterday’s recall of Kellogg's Frosted Mini-Wheats one commenter mentioned a phone call received from the grocery chain Wegmans. “I was really impressed when I received an automated call from Wegmans yesterday telling me that I had bought a box of the recalled cereal recently at their store,” Paula Hogan said. Wegmans Director of Media Relations, Jo Natale, said the company has been calling customers that use their Shoppers Club Card since 2007. “When a product is recalled we can scour our database and identify the customers who bought that particular product,” Natale…

It’s been more than a week since the grocery store opened on West Main Street; what have your experiences been like?

A town is often defined by what businesses the have and don’t have. For Hopkinton the association was always with smaller local retailers but Price Chopper is signifying some change to that image. When the store opened on June 21 shoppers seemed excited to be able to do their shopping without having to drive all the way to Milford. But now that the shine has worn off a little bit and the store has been given a once over by most shoppers in town we want to know what you really think about it. Everyone leaving Price Chopper after their grand opening had a smile on their face, but there were still some concerns.

Have you visited the Price Chopper that opened in the Hopkinton Square shopping plaza yet? Many people from all around the area were at the grocery store for its grand opening this morning. Patch got a preview of the new grocery store in town, along with employees their families and community members.

Members from all facets of the community stopped by Price Chopper on West Main Street last night to see what the store had to offer. One of the most exciting parts for many visitors was the in-store Starbucks. This morning at 8:15 there will be a ribbon cutting and flag raising ceremony, stay tuned to Patch later for a video, including conversations with some of the first shoppers to hear about their experience.

Price Chopper Prepares for Grand Opening

Are you going to the preview party tonight?

With less than 24 hours before the grand opening, and less than 5 before the preview party, Price Chopper was buzzing with activity today. Landscapers from Weston Nurseries were working around the trees, Price Chopper employs were bringing things in and out of the store.  Will you be going to the grand opening tonight? A $5 donation, matched by price chopper, will go to local charities including Project Just Because, Baypath Humane Society and Hopkinton Youth Soccer. The preview tonight is from 5:30 to 7. Tomorrow the flag raising and ribbon cutting will take place at 8:15 a.m. with the store opening at 8:30 a.m.

Price Chopper Opening Date Set for Next Week

After months of construction the new grocery store will be opening at the Hopkinton Square plaza on June 21.

If you live on the west side of town you've been watching construction of the new Price Chopper move along steadily for the past several months.  Yesterday Price Chopper sent out an announcement saying that the store will be opening on Thursday, June 21 at 8:30 a.m. Store Manager James Carlson Jr. also invited residents a preview of the store before it opens. "For a sneak preview of the store, visit our Pre-opening Fund Raising party on June 20 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. With a $5 donation at the door, you’ll get a taste of some of our specialties, see the store, and help support three local non-profits." The local nonprofits that will be supported are Baypath Humane Society, Hopkinton Youth Soccer and Project Just Because. All three …

I'm someone who has lived in Hopkinton for 26 years and who does not think we shold ever block, stop, or slow down progress in the name of "traffic" or even "light pollution." People need to live somewhere, need to work somewhere, and need to shop somewhere. Choice is better than not having choice. We can not and should not stop that.   more ›
