What We Learned on Patch This Week

NStar cut power to parts of town, businesses gave back to the community, and Fiske's General Store brought in hundreds of children for trick-or-treating.

NStar cut power to Holliston's schools Monday morning. The company took the measure to safely repair lines in nearby Sherborn. Superintendent Brad Jackson voiced frustration over not receiving warning that schools would be dark.  Holliston business owners gave back to the town's teachers this week. Giving discounts to medical staff and local employees in coming weeks, the shop owners hope to bring in new customers and promote buying local.  Halloween at Fiske's General Store brought in hundreds of children. Trick-or-treaters lined up to have their picture taken and grab some candy from owner John Paltrineri.

A Whiz Kid who truly deserves the title and a resident who allegedly stole millions from his doctor.

Snow came early to Holliston with a  from a few flurries. With a mix of fall and winter, it was a great photo opportunity.  Dan Barone is not only a star athlete but a star student. Holliston High's quarterback is leading the football team to success and his honor roll grades will bring him even further.  The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities is investigating the response of local utilities to Hurricane Irene. The investigation will look at NStar and National Grid to determine if those companies followed DPU regulations in their response to the storm.  A local man faces numerous charges in connection with allegedly stealing millions from his doctor and others. What We Learned on Patch This Week

We learned there is a world-class chiropractor living in Holliston, and that residents are polarized on the issue of a nearby casino.

1. A local chiropractor is among the elite when it comes to treating athletes. He will travel to Mexico to give care to competitors in the Pan American games this weekend, and hopes to bring added recognition to his profession in the process.  2. Holliston residents know a little something about world news. When I asked around Pejamajo Cafe about how people were feeling about Mohmar Gadhafi's capture and execution, they had something to say.  3. The Harlem Wizards came to Holliston, entertaining the crowd with on-the-court antics and dunk after dunk. Playing against a crack team of Holliston residents, the event was fun for the whole family. Over $3,000 was raised for rennovations to the Miller school playground. 4. With State legislation …

Beer tasting, protest occupations and a teacher's battle with sickness are all on the list of what we learned this week.

1. Brewfest Benefits Community: Holliston residents drank beer Thursday night to benefit families in need. All proceeds from the event benefited the town's Community Action Fund, which makes emergency donations to financially troubled residents.  2. Time to Occupy Holliston: Our columnist John Shanahan thinks its time to join with the movement sweeping the country and occupy Holliston. This week, the top story was the ordeal of Pamela Salant, a 28-year-old former Holliston resident who was rescued Tuesday after spending three nights alone in the Mount Hood National Forest. According to KOIN in Portland, Salant had surgery on a broken leg Friday at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland. She also suffered broken bones in her back after a 50-foot fall into a steep drainage area. Wearing only shorts and a tank top when she was separated from her boyfriend on Saturday, Salant survived by eating berries and caterpillars and covering herself with moss to keep warm during the three cold nights. We also found out that Holliston has a rich baseball history, that houses are still selling locally and that water balloons rock when a heat wave comes to town.  1.
