Holliston’s Liane Blyn Takes Bronze at Weightlifting World Championships

Blyn runs gym in Holliston that trains children in athletics.

Lifting a combined 1,361 pounds, Liane Blyn took home home the bronze metal at the International Powerlifting World Championships on Nov. 11.

At the contest, held in the Czech Republic, she bench-pressed, squatted and dead-lifted past women from around the world.

“I’m 39 years old and I like showing people you can do anything you set your mind to. I love lifting, it’s fun,” Blyn said.

Blyn, a Milford resident, returned from the competition to her workplace in Holliston. Athletic Based Training on Jeffrey Avenue instructs children and adults in athletics including powerlifting.

Her third-place finish was a culmination of years of training, much of which takes place after working long hours training children and adults.

“People I compete against, no one has to wake up at four in the morning to run adult boot camp,” Blyn said.

But Blyn said the progress she sees in her students makes the long hours worth the work.

“They get so much more confidence,” Blyn said. “They get better grades and do better at school, and they get a lot stronger.”
